Working Cow Horse Clinics

Shaun McBride clinics are for all levels, whether you are a seasoned show pen competitor or your horse has never seen cattle. Shaun will help each horse and rider with personalized instruction.

Class Descriptions
Cow Horse Clinic - All Levels There is some work on reining (circle, stop, spin) in the morning and then the afternoon portion will cover position on a cow for boxing. Beginning riders will know enough to be able to compete in the Green after this session. More advanced riders will be given the opportunity to rate around the corner and work on going down the fence. NRCHA rules will be covered. Clinic starts at 9am. Break for lunch (provided) at 12 noon and start on the cattle portion at 1pm. Limited to 10 riders. Cost $85.

Cutting/Herd Work Clinic This session is geared for riders who want to improve on their cutting skills. You and your horse should have prior experience on cattle and have an understanding of position on a cow. You don't have to have cutting experience, just cattle experience. Covers NCHA rules, working in a herd and making a good cut. Riders will also be working together as herd and turnback help. Limited to 5 riders.

Get Ready for the Green! Beginner's Cow Horse Clinic This session works on the basics of working cow horse. There is some work on reining basics (circle, stop, spin) in the morning and then the afternoon portion will cover basic position on a cow for boxing. Riders will know enough to be able to compete in the Green after this session. Clinic starts at 9am. Break for lunch (provided) at 12 noon and start on the cattle portion at 1pm. Limited to 10 riders. Cost $85.

Beginner's Cutting Clinic This session is geared for riders who want to try cutting or improve on their existing cutting skills. You do not have to have prior experience in the herd. Covers NCHA rules and basic position on a cow. Limited to 5 riders.

How to be good turnback help In this session, riders will rotate thru each position as turnback, herd help and cutter to get a better understanding of how to help the cutter. There will be a lot of information on strategy entering the herd, making a good cut, and how your help can set up a good run. Riders and horses should have some experience in the herd. Half day clinic. Limited to 5 riders.

Position, Position, Position! This session will go into detailed work on position on a cow and getting control of a cow. There will be some show ring strategy with tips on how to get back into position if you've lost working advantage. Limited to 8 riders.
